Wilder Returns to Capitol After Hospitalization

NASHVILLE (AP) - State Sen. John Wilder is back at the Capitol.

The 86-year-old Mason Democrat was hospitalized over the weekend with pneumonia, and missed Monday's Senate floor session.

But Wilder was back wandering the halls of Legislative Plaza on Tuesday afternoon, greeting fellow lawmakers, staff and lobbyists.

"I'm back, I'm OK," Wilder told The Associated Press. "I had pneumonia, and now I'm well."

Wilder was the Senate speaker for 36 years until he lost the job to Republican Ron Ramsey of Blountville last year. He has served in the Senate continuously since 1967, and last month he lent his re-election campaign $500,000.

Asked whether he will have to make changes to his work schedule while he recovers, Wilder said: "I've always taken it easy."
