2004: Open house for the new FedExForum, the new $250 million arena south of the Beale Street entertainment district.
1981: Ozzy Osbourne at the Orpheum with Def Leppard opening the show. Osbourne was touring with a band that featured guitarist Randy Rhoades who would die less than a year later in a plane crash. The Memphis show finished abruptly when Osbourne had to stop performing because of a broken rib he sustained earlier on the tour after falling off stage.

Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a birthday celebration Monday at 10 a.m. at its Midtown headquarters, 910 Vance Ave. The event is free and open to the public and will include music, a keynote address by Bartholomew Orr, senior pastor at Brown Missionary Baptist Church, cake and volunteers will participate in a special holiday meals delivery. Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association is offering several ways to give back to the community this holiday season.
In conjunction with a special Christmas Day meals delivery, volunteers will deliver gift bags to 1,000 homebound senior meals clients. Those who would like to donate gifts should deliver them by Dec. 10 to MIFA, 910 Vance Ave.

Rhodes College will present its 21st annual Institute on the Profession of Law today from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Bryan Campus Life Center Ballroom on the Rhodes campus. David Luban, the Frederick J. Haas Professor of Law and Philosophy at Georgetown Law School, will be the keynote speaker.

The campaign of Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards learned about crime as well as poverty in Memphis Monday during a stop of Edwards' "Road To One America Tour." The tour is supposed to call attention to Americans living in poverty.
