It’s hard to make an impression on a stream of speeding cars and trucks, but Ward Wimbish, the man responsible for growing West Memphis’ economic development, hopes to divert drive-thru traffic into town.

9. State to Inspect Unregulated Dams This Year -

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - The state will inspect unregulated dams this year, starting with about 70 that could result in deaths if they break, but state conservation officials want legislation giving them authority to inspect and regulate all of the state's 1,200 nonfederal dams.

11. Shelby Farms Cleanup To be Held Saturday -

The last Clean Memphis event of 2008 will be Saturday at Shelby Farms Park.

Volunteers are needed to help spread mulch on the trails, weed the flower beds and pick up litter along the shores of the lakes.

12. Shelby Farms Planners Bide Time While Designs Chewed Over -

The three planners competing for the job of charting Shelby Farms' future can be forgiven if they looked a bit nervous this month.

Their plans for the 4,500 acres of parkland were unveiled last week at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library and by April, the Shelby Farms Conservancy Board will have picked one of them for the job. But that doesn't mean the board will choose the plans the board and citizens are reacting to. That's why you could see George Hargreaves taking in Tom Leader's poster boards one row over and vice versa. And James Corner was trying to get his mind around Hargreaves' vision.

13. Shelby Farms' Potential Master Plans Unveiled Thurs. -

The public got its first look Thursday at three proposed plans for Shelby Farms Park.

The designs by Tom Leader Studio, Hargreaves Associates and Field Operations offer very different ideas for a master plan to come.

14. Matthews Bros. Faces More Legal Trouble -

Builders Service Group Inc. of Olive Branch is suing Mark Matthews Development LLC and Mark Matthews for more than $147,000, according to court documents.

Builders Service Group, doing business as Quality Insulation, filed the suit in Shelby County Circuit Court late last week, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

15. FedEx Subsidiaries Spread Holiday Cheer With Free Tree Shipments -

Some troops stationed overseas will not have to miss out on a Christmas tradition this year, thanks to some concerned folks back here at home.

With the help of FedEx Freight and FedEx Express, the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation this year has shipped 11,000 free Christmas trees to American soldiers and their families stationed at military bases in the Middle East and around the United States.
