Last week we shared a story submitted by Mike Bowen, CEO and president of Champion Awards & Apparel, which spotlighted “late bloomers” and was a testament for how someone’s past does not have to predict his or her future. This week let us discuss an organization that is celebrating 50 years of enhancing the lives of people with disabilities and bringing peace of mind to their families: SRVS.

Shelby Residential and Vocational Services, the largest comprehensive service provider for West Tennessee residents with disabilities, has unveiled its new state-of-the-art facility, expanded its capacity and launched several innovative programs.

7. SRVS Files $3.3M Loan for New Headquarters -

Shelby Residential and Vocational Services Inc., currently headquartered at 3592 Knight Arnold Road, has filed a $3.3 million construction loan through First Tennessee Bank NA for its new headquarters at 3971 Knight Arnold, about a mile east from its current spot.

8. SRVS Celebrates New Building, Expansion -

Shelby Residential and Vocational Services will host a renovation party from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday to celebrate its new building at 3971 Knight Arnold Road, which will help the organization to expand services and provide state-of-the-art facilities for more people with disabilities.

10. Renovating Realities With SRVS -

Last week we explored Shelby County Books from Birth, which is providing thousands of new books each month to local children up to age 5, in order to plant the seeds of literacy and help build a stronger foundation for our future.

11. SRVS Sets Up Adult Angel Tree -

Shelby Residential and Vocational Services (SRVS) has set up an adopt-an-angel gift-giving program for the disadvantaged individuals the agency serves.

Each angel represents an adult with developmental issues and has a personalized wish list of a few basic needs.

13. SRVS Buys Parkway Village Office Building - The Shelby Residential and Vocational Services Inc. (SRVS) has bought an office building at 3971 Knight Arnold Road in Parkway Village for $850,000 from the Ajsy Family Living Trust, Anthony Joseph Campos Sy, trustee. The sale closed Aug. 28.

The 82,166-square-foot building was built in 1992 and sits on 3.3 acres near the intersection of Knight Arnold and Getwell roads. The Shelby County Assessor of Property’s 2008 appraisal is $422,500.

The organization financed the purchase with a $722,500 loan from Trustmark National Bank. SRVS was formed in 1962 to help Shelby County residents with development disabilities.
