4. Arena Transformation -

As the city of Memphis is nearing completion of its preparation of The Pyramid for Bass Pro Shops, the Springfield, Mo.-based retailer is slated to start its part of the project in March.

The city and Bass Pro Shops in January filed two building permits with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement for $21.5 million and $7 million for renovations to 32-story The Pyramid arena at 1 A.W. Willis Ave.

5. Filling the Voids -

Last year was a banner year for adaptive reuse projects in Midtown and Downtown.

Developers announced plans for the Sears Crosstown building, Overton Square, Hotel Chisca, James Lee House and old United Warehouse in the South Main Historic Arts District. Construction began on The Pyramid, turning it into a 220,000-square-foot mega-Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World, and Memphis in May moved into its new headquarters at 56 S. Front St., a 14,600-square-foot building that’s on the National Register of Historic Places.

49. ‘Worse and Worse’ - Local homebuilders filed 35 percent fewer new home permits for the second quarter compared to last year, and experts say there’s a ways to go before signs of recovery emerge.

Shelby County homebuilders filed 142 permits during Q2 (April to June), down from 220 in Q2 2010, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

Memphis-based Evolve Financial Group has brought a new chief financial officer on board.

The Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division board of directors today is expected to vote on a resolution approving a contract renewal with AT&T Mobility for wireless telephone services.

Also today, the board is scheduled to approve a 36-month contract for concrete standards with Ruffin & Associates in the amount of $1.9 million.

The agenda for today’s Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division board of directors meeting is a light one.

The Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division board of directors is scheduled to take action on several large contracts at today’s meeting.

Among those items is a 36-month contract with OfficeMax for office supplies not to exceed approximately $1.4 million. Also, the board is scheduled to take action on renewing a $9.6 million contract with General Construction Services Inc. for environmental abatement services.

94. MLGW Board to Consider Contract Approvals -

Several contracts are on tap for approval today by the Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division board of directors at its meeting this afternoon.

Among them, the board is scheduled to vote on resolutions awarding a solid waste and trash removal services contract to Waste Connections of Tennessee Inc. for a little more than $636,000; a 60-month contract for maintenance and support of the utility company’s document imaging system to Imaging Solutions and Services Inc. for almost $182,000; and a contract for a Web application security gateway upgrade to Fishnet Security for $106,175.
