Details: An affiliate of Chicago-based hotel asset manager Lodging Capital Partners LLC has paid $24.8 million for the Embassy Suites Memphis hotel at 1022 S. Shady Grove Road in East Memphis.

2. Early Voting Opens in Sales Tax Referendum -

Early voting opens Friday, Nov. 1, in the citywide referendum on a half percent sales tax hike and the Tennessee House District 91 general election.

Election day in the two special election contests is Nov. 21, the last election in a series of 11 in a three-month period.

3. African-American TV Station Broadens Presence -

A new set of programming on Comcast Channel 31 geared toward Memphis’ African-American community is continuing to broaden its presence in the city.

The Carter Malone Group has developed a website for the venture, called MUTV1, which is short for Memphis Urban Television 1. In addition to serving as its agency of record, The Carter Malone Group CEO Deidre Malone also has a show on the channel called “Dialogue with Deidre.”

5. Business Licenses Rise Slightly in 2011 -

The Shelby County Clerk’s Office issued 5,751 business licenses in 2011, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com. It’s about a 5 percent increase from 2010, when 5,489 were filed in the county.

6. Business License Activity Rises 14 Pct. in Q3 -

The number of businesses licenses filed with the Shelby County Clerk’s office increased by more than 14 percent to 1,592 in the third quarter compared with 1,391 in third quarter 2010, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

7. Taylor-Brown Apothecary Opens Second Drugstore -

The Taylor-Brown Apothecary, which claims to be the only African-American-owned and operated drugstore chain in the Southeast, will celebrate the opening of a store at 3333 Shelby Drive on Friday, Oct. 14, with an open house and mixer.
