2. Whole Foods Files Permit for Expansion -

Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market Inc. has filed a $3.1 million building permit application with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to renovate its lone local store on Poplar Avenue in East Memphis.

3. Office Depot Relocates Poplar Avenue Store -

Office Depot opened its new Poplar Avenue store Monday, Dec. 17.

The Delray Beach, Fla.-based office products company relocated its East Memphis store from 5014 Poplar Ave. next to Whole Foods to 5510 Poplar Ave. near Yates Road. Office Depot took 18,666 square feet of the 22,000-square-foot space vacated by Samuel’s last year. The balance was filled by Hollywood Feed.

5. Poplar Transformation -

Two big retail deals have recently been inked on the Poplar Avenue corridor, soon filling empty spaces on the city’s busiest street.

A new Family Dollar is going in the old Stringer’s Garden Center site at 2974 Poplar, while Office Depot and Hollywood Feed are going in the former Samuel’s Furniture space at 5502-5510 Poplar, near South Yates Road.

6. Loeb Buys Half-InterestIn E. Memphis Center -      Loeb Properties, working as an entity called Pearlco LP, has bought a half-interest in a multi-tenant retail building on Poplar Avenue east of Mendenhall Road for $2.4 million. Rhodes College was the seller.
