27. Q1 Property Foreclosures Up Slightly -

Lenders repossessed almost as many homes, apartment buildings and other properties in Shelby County during the first quarter of this year as they did during the same period in 2009.

The irony is inescapable: The East Memphis headquarters of Roebuck Auctions has been foreclosed and will be sold on the steps of the Shelby County Courthouse to the highest bidder.

Owned by company founder John Roebuck and his wife, Glenda, the nearly 8,000-square-foot building that sits on 1.15 acres at 4932 Park Ave. has been home to Roebuck’s eponymous auction house since 2005.

It’s not every day that a 10-acre industrial site is put on the auction block – selling absolute to the highest bidder, no less – but a Cordova property zoned for heavy industrial use and about 80 percent occupied goes to bid next week.
