The Memphis & Shelby County Office of Economic Development holds a public meeting to update the progress on the Broad Avenue Corridor planning initiative today at 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 2849 Broad Ave. Earlier this year, community input was gathered in the Broad Avenue Corridor charrette process as a test case for the Unified Development Code. The new code is being drafted to update and overhaul the current city-county zoning and subdivision regulations. It's one of the most blighted, poverty-scarred stretches of Memphis, but even Binghamton isn't immune to the winds of change.
Four months after planners, businesspeople and neighborhood residents mapped out the area's future at a public forum, members of First Baptist Church at 2849 Broad Ave. have created the Broad Avenue Community and Economic Development Corp. The civic group takes its name from Broad Avenue, the major roadway in the Binghamton area near Sam Cooper Boulevard.
