1. State Archivists to Appear In Somerville in June -

Archivists from the Tennessee State Library and Archives and the Tennessee State Museum will be in Somerville June 6 to record and archive Civil War memorabilia.

The archivists are collecting the digital records and photos for a new exhibit and are visiting other parts of the state and region as well. The group plans to visit all 95 Tennessee counties.

3. Signs of Life -

Home sales activity picked up in the first quarter of this year across the Mid-South, and brokers believe the market recovery is gaining traction.

Shelby County home sales rose 6 percent during the first quarter, with 3,382 sales from January to March compared to 3,179 during the first quarter of 2012, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

4. Fogelman Management Adds Seven Properties -

Fogelman Management Group has been awarded seven management contracts totaling more than 1,700 units in Tennessee, Georgia, Kansas and Oklahoma.

These newly managed communities are: 330-unit Miller Creek at Germantown, 202-unit Blair Towers and 344-unit Ten Mile Creek in Memphis; 216-unit Quail Landing in Oklahoma City; 192-unit Miller Station at Peachtree in Atlanta; 177-unit Park Place at Town Center in Leawood, Kan.; and 251-unit Bella Palazzo in Overland Park, Kan.

6. Building Permits Show Little Change -

Local homebuilders didn’t change much the amount of new home permits they filed during the third quarter compared with the same period last year.

Shelby County homebuilders filed 218 permits during the quarter (July to September), compared with 216 filed during the same period in 2011, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com. Third-quarter permits marked a 12 percent drop from the 249 permits filed during the second quarter of this year.

7. Brentwood Place Apts. Sells for $8.5 Million -

Slidell, La.-based Southern Breeze LLC has bought the Brentwood Place Apartments complex at 1835 Sycamore View Road from Grant Investment LLC for $8.5 million. The deal closed Aug. 22.

8. Kent H. Landsberg Co. Doubles Space -

Kent H. Landsberg Co. has finally inked a deal that had been in the works for quite some time.

Landsberg, a packaging, janitorial and food service shipping supply company, stayed in Memphis and expanded when it purchased Wurzburg Inc., a Memphis-based provider of supply-chain logistics and packaging.

Even though StoneCrest Investors LLC just unloaded $55.2 million worth of Cordova real estate, the Round Rock, Texas-based development company remains committed to the area, company CEO Brad Smith said this week.

11. $55M Transaction Lifts Commercial RE -

Shelby County's sluggish commercial real estate market got a boost when a portfolio that includes Cordova's Countrywood Crossing shopping center and Dick's Sporting Goods sold to an out-of-town real estate investor for $55.2 million.

It was a year that wreaked havoc on homeowners, construction firms, landscaping services and other related enterprises.

Judging by the amount and types of bankruptcy filings in West Tennessee, 2007 also was a year that saw businesses you might expect to have a steady, year-round market appeal nevertheless hit bottom and turn to the bankruptcy courts.
