Developers announced plans for the Sears Crosstown building, Overton Square, Hotel Chisca, James Lee House and old United Warehouse in the South Main Historic Arts District. Memphis rarely is described as a chic city, but upscale hotel projects in Midtown and Harbor Town could work toward changing that.
The 28-room River Inn of Harbor Town is being built at 50 and 51 Harbor Town Square for around $9.3 million, and the America's Best Inn & Suites at 1837 Union Ave. is being renovated to become The Artisan Hotel, Memphis, for around $1.5 million. Together, these projects will bring two boutique hotels to the Bluff City. Boutique hotels tend to be smaller, but offer amenities similar to larger facilities.
