1. Kroger Pulls $11 Million Permit for Union Avenue Store -

Kroger has pulled an $11 million building permit for its new Union Avenue store in Midtown.

The existing Kroger store, which sits on a 1.1-acre site at 1745 Union, will be demolished for a parking lot for the new 74,000-square-foot store. Kroger has already completed the demolition of the Belvedere Apartments to make way for the new store at 1761 Union, which will include a larger pharmacy and new refrigeration and freezer cases, among other changes. Kroger has invested a little over $50 million in the Memphis area over the last three years and will invest north of an additional $50 million over the next three years.

2. Belvedere Apartments Come Down for New Kroger Store -

Work is underway this week to bring down the former Belvedere apartments on Union Avenue to make way for the new Midtown Kroger supermarket.

The Delta Division of Kroger is investing $100 million over six years into the overhaul of several Memphis-area stores, including the new Midtown store. The original store, at 1745 Union, will be demolished for a parking lot for the new store.

3. Midtown Kroger Construction to Start -

With a few amendments by the Memphis-Shelby County Board of Adjustment Wednesday, Oct. 23, the new Midtown Kroger supermarket rolled out of the planning and zoning process and into preparation for demolition of the old Belvedere apartments building and construction of the new store.

4. Deed Filed for Kroger's Purchase of Apartments -

A $2.6 million warranty deed has been filed for Kroger LP’s purchase of Belvedere Apartments, a 10-story apartment high-rise at 1745 Union Ave.

5. Deeds Filed For Schnucks Buyout -

Five warranty deeds totaling about $30.5 million, two quitclaim deeds and several lease assignments have been filed in conjunction with The Kroger Co.’s buyout of nine Memphis-area Schnucks stores. The deeds all are dated Sept. 12.
