1. Leases Push Renaissance Center Near Capacity -

The Renaissance Center office building in East Memphis should be near capacity early next year, following a series of recent lease signings.

Financial Federal signed a lease on Tuesday, Nov. 20, to occupy 27,000 square feet on the first and second floors of the Renaissance Center, 1715 Aaron Brenner Drive. In addition to the new location, the growing financial firm will have signage atop the East Memphis office building along Poplar Avenue east of Interstate 240.

2. Victory Packaging Relocates to Memphis -

Victory Packaging soon will relocate its entire Southaven branch operation to the Southeast Memphis industrial submarket.

The Houston, Texas-based industrial packaging supplier and distributor inked 158,333 square feet in Shelby Air Park Building 1, 4500 Malone Road. The 475,000-square-foot building also houses Terminal Warehouse Inc.

News that the Schnucks supermarket at 1150 N. Germantown Parkway is closing brought to light an important realization about today’s economy.

4. The Rise of Redbox -

Redbox, which is reshaping the U.S. video market with its massive horde of DVD kiosks and $1-per-day price strategy, is going on a tear in Memphis.

The company has filed 34 business licenses since Jan. 1, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com. And that signals at least two things about the Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based division of Coinstar Inc.

Fred Montesi III, a member of the well-known Memphis grocery family, was one of the first Blockbuster franchise holders in the United States.
