Here it is, January 2012, marking 24 years that I have been reviewing restaurants and writing about the dining business in Memphis. Forgive me if I wax nostalgic.

I began saving menus from the restaurants I reviewed for The Commercial Appeal sometime in 1988; it took me a few months for me to understand that saving menus would provide reference points for restaurants that I might review in the future and, perhaps more vaguely then, that such a collection would amount to a history of my experiences, if not a narrative of the dining community and its transformations over time, not to put it too grandiosely.

2. New Eateries Coming to Midtown - Friday, July 15, 2011

Midtown has a reputation for one of Memphis’ most eclectic areas, adorned with vintage houses, international cuisine and funky entertainment venues.

In the coming weeks, it will broaden its portfolio even more with three Memphis eateries: Gigi’s Cupcakes, The Slider Inn and a yet-to-be named concept in Cooper-Young.

The Memphis Lawyers’ Chapter and University of Memphis Law School Student Chapter of the Federalist Society will hold a seminar today from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Memphis Cecil C. 4. McEwen's to Be Sold by May - Wednesday, April 09, 2008

Change is in the works for one of Downtown's most noted eateries, but owners are hoping for a virtually unnoticeable transition. McEwen's On Monroe, whose accolades have caught the attention of national media, will be sold to a new owner May 1.
