1. Shelby County Residential Foreclosures Drop 22 Percent -

Foreclosures have been on a consistent downward slope in Shelby County, with newly available figures underscoring the comprehensive nature of the decline.

During third quarter 2014, the county saw 667 residential foreclosures, a 22 percent decline from the 853 filed during the same period in 2013, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, chandlerreports.com.

2. Grocery Growth -

By the end of this year, Kroger will have spent between $150 million and $200 million on upgrades, fixes and renovations at its Memphis-area stores.

That investment is one example among many in the Memphis area of how the stiff competition among grocers and similar retailers is playing out as they make grabs for bigger slices of the customer pie.

3. Business Licenses Increase 4.9 Percent in Third Quarter -

Business licenses filed with the Shelby County Clerk’s Office in the third quarter rose nearly 5 percent over third quarter 2012, and increased even more compared to the second quarter this year, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

4. Kroger Unveils Renovation of Whitehaven Store -

Executives of Kroger’s Delta Division unveiled a $5 million renovation Thursday, May 23, of the supermarket chain’s Whitehaven store.

The store at 1212 E. Shelby Drive will remain open during the renovation, which begins immediately and is expected to be completed by Christmas. New displays and cases for the store will be combined with a move of the pharmacy’s location in the store.

5. Kroger Announces Changes to Whitehaven Store -

The latest upgrade of a Kroger supermarket in Memphis to be announced by the grocery giant’s Delta Division will be the Whitehaven store at 1212 E. Shelby Drive.

7. Deeds Filed For Schnucks Buyout -

Five warranty deeds totaling about $30.5 million, two quitclaim deeds and several lease assignments have been filed in conjunction with The Kroger Co.’s buyout of nine Memphis-area Schnucks stores. The deeds all are dated Sept. 12.

Eight Memphis area Schnucks supermarkets will become Kroger stores in a purchase of the rival stores announced Friday, Sept. 2.

Executives of Kroger’s Delta Division announced the purchase, saying the eight stores will re-open under the Kroger name within weeks after a temporary closing.

10. MAAR Reports Slowdown In Sales, Increase in Price -

The Memphis Area Association of Realtors on Thursday released its August data, showing home sales in Shelby, Fayette and Tipton counties declined 19.1 percent from the same month a year ago. August saw 1,212 home sales, down from 1,499 in August 2008 and also down 13.2 percent from 1,396 home sales in July.

11. Q3 Bankruptcies Up 11 Percent -

At first glance, it might seem like Shelby County Commissioner Henri Brooks’ Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing this month does not fall in line with the intent of a major revision to the country’s bankruptcy code in 2005.
