1. Local Attorneys Celebrate Pro Bono Month -

The Memphis legal community will continue a tradition next month that began a few years ago, in which the pro bono efforts of legal professionals are celebrated, encouraged and promoted for the entire month of October.

The Small Business Chamber will hold a power lunch titled “Doing Business with the Memphis Latino Community” Thursday, Sept. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Better Business Bureau, 3693 Tyndale Drive. For more information, call Sally Baker Brenner at 748-8889.

The Daily News’ offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day. Offices reopen at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, and will remain open during normal business hours.

The Greater Memphis Chamber will present “HobNob: Politics in the Park” Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the AutoZone Park courtyard, 200 Union Ave. Attendees can mingle with elected officials and political candidates and enjoy barbecue and beer. The National Association of Women Business Owners will host "Our Journey: The Road to Success" today from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Crescent Club, 6075 Poplar Ave. RSVP to 844-3738.

The Memphis Rotary Club will meet today at noon in The Cannon Center for the Performing Arts, 255 N. Main St. The event is $18. RSVP to Taylor Hughes at 526-1318 or taylor@memphisrotary.org.

The Engineers' Club of Memphis will hold its weekly lunch and meeting today at noon at the Holiday Inn-University of Memphis, 3700 Central Ave. The speaker is John Selberg, task force leader for Tennessee Task Force One, who will speak on "Disaster and the Role of Urban Search and Rescue." The event is $12 and no reservations are required.
