1. Voters Approve Wine, Constitutional Amendments -

Shelby County citizens voted 2-to-1 Tuesday, Nov. 4, against a proposed amendment to the Tennessee Constitution that gives the Tennessee Legislature the power to regulate abortion, including in cases of rape or incest.

2. Shelby County Mortgage Market Sees Modest Gain -

Shelby County mortgage lenders share a few common trends at the moment, as the area’s mortgage market begins to shake off the wintry chill of the first quarter.

Many of them report robust purchase mortgage activity, as refinances plummet to small fractions of their business. As a result of the demand, many of those lenders also have been adding mortgage officers to their ranks and plan to continue doing so.

3. Renovation, Expansion Underway at Saddle Creek -

The Shops at Saddle Creek has picked up a new tenant as the lifestyle center undergoes a renovation.

Marmi Shoes has leased 1,395 square feet between Vera Bradley and Madewell at Saddle Creek. St. Louis-based Marmi Shoes offers a wide variety of women’s shoe styles and sizes with a European influence. The Saddle Creek location, the first in the Memphis area and the second in Tennessee, is expected to open in the fall.

The Shelby County Commission voted down Monday, May 6, a $368,372 federal-through-state grant to the county Community Services division.

The grant from the Tennessee Department of Human Services was specifically for emergency assistance with rent and mortgage payments as well as uniform and food vouchers, gas cards and bus passes for those at or below the poverty level locally.

Shelby County Commissioners voted down a resolution Monday, May 6, that would have backed the idea of state legislators and county sheriffs across the state “nullifying” federal gun control laws they consider unconstitutional.

Shelby County Commissioners formally get the financials of Shelby County’s two public school systems Monday, May 6, in an action that is not expected to generate much debate.

But the financial statements for the fiscal year that ended June 30 is another step along the path toward the formal merger of both school systems effective at the end of the current fiscal year.

11. Raleigh Office Complex Sold To Local Entity -

An office complex in Raleigh has traded hands after being under the same family ownership for more than 30 years.

Commercial Real Estate Network LLC, a local investor, has purchased the 40,756-square-foot Raleigh Center Office Complex at 2974 Austin Peay Highway from Charles R. Averwater Living Trust for $299,000.
