Experts at The Regional Medical Center at Memphis are encouraging parents to keep children away from fireworks as they celebrate the Fourth of July.

Last year, fireworks were involved in about 8,700 injuries treated in U.S. hospitals, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

4. MED Burn Center on Holiday High Alert -

The Regional Medical Center at Memphis is preparing for a busy Independence Day. The staff at the Firefighters Regional Burn Center, a full-service burn center housed inside The MED, knows all too well how a quick celebration can turn to tragedy when inexperienced people handle fireworks.

Joe Brandenburg has joined The MED Foundation as director of development.
