After enduring early struggles in his commercial real estate career, Scott Pahlow has reached the top of his industry.

Pahlow, an executive vice president with Newmark Grubb Memphis, was named Commercial Broker of the Year Thursday night at the Memphis Area Association of Realtors Commercial Council’s 13th annual Pinnacle Awards gala.

Seventeen Pro Football Hall of Famers and Dave Robinson, who will be inducted this weekend, have signed a letter telling NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell they are concerned about medical care for former players and the league’s “continued denial of the link between repeated head impacts and permanent brain damage.”

Andy Wright has joined Memphis-based Magna Bank as senior vice president and manager of commercial banking. Wright, who previously held senior vice president positions at Iberiabank and First Tennessee Bank, has experience working with a variety of industries, with in-depth expertise in the transportation and logistics industries.

12. Memphis Bar Association Names New Board Members -

The Memphis Bar Association has appointed new officers and new members to the board of directors for 2010.

Ricky E. Wilkins of the Law Offices of Ricky E. Wilkins will serve as president. John Cannon of Shuttleworth Williams PLLC will serve as vice president and Gary K. Smith of Apperson Crump Maxwell PLC will serve as treasurer. Linda Warren Seely of Memphis Area Legal Services Inc. will serve as secretary.

13. For Hopeful Sports Fans, Memphis Still Home of the Blues -

It’s often difficult being a sports fan around here, but the past two weeks have been especially brutal for Memphians.

The University of Memphis fired football coach Tommy West Monday after back-to-back outings in which the Tigers drew 4,117 fans for a nationally televised home game and then were shellacked on the road by Tennessee.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Former state House Majority Leader Tommy Burnett, whose political career survived his first federal conviction but not his second, has died. He was 67.

Chris Rosa has been named general manger of the Holiday Inn and Suites Memphis-Wolfchase. Rosa will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the property. He previously served as vice president of operations for Equity Estates, general manger at the Sheraton Meadowlands and area manger of the Crowne Plaza Ravinia in Atlanta. Rosa also has been named General Manager of the Year by Patriot American Hotels and Hotelier of the Year by the Connecticut Hospitality Association.
