1. Automakers Report Sales Up Double-Digits in August -

DETROIT (AP) – The major U.S. and Japanese automakers all posted double-digit U.S. sales gains last month as car buyers snapped up pickup trucks and small cars to lead the industry toward its best month in six years.

2. 2013 Auto Sales Will be Strong, Firm Predicts -

DETROIT (AP) – A healthier economy and more model introductions should push U.S. auto sales above the 15 million mark this year, predicts an auto industry research firm.

The Polk research firm says auto sales should continue to lead the country's economic recovery, rising nearly 7 percent over 2012 to 15.3 million new vehicle registrations.

3. Toyota, Chrysler See Big April Sales Gains -

DETROIT (AP) – Toyota and Chrysler saw big U.S. sales gains in April, but they came at the expense of General Motors and Ford.

When automakers finish reporting numbers on Tuesday, industry-wide sales are likely to rise only a little above April of 2011, but the annual pace is expected to match February and March. Automakers and analysts noted that this April had more Sundays than last year and fewer cars are sold on Sundays

4. UTHSC College of Medicine Names Smith Interim Dean -

J. Lacey Smith has been named interim dean for the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Smith currently serves as the associate dean of clinical affairs for the College of Medicine and the chief medical officer and executive vice president for UT Medical Group Inc.

DETROIT (AP) - Thousands of GM workers could learn as early as Thursday that they will be idle for up to nine weeks this summer as the automaker's plants stop making all but its most popular cars and trucks.
