1. AIA Memphis Showing Best 2014 Architecture -

AIA Memphis is hosting a public display of the best architecture in Memphis this year through June 20.

The opening night reception, hosted during the South Main Art Trolley Tour Friday, May 30, offers the public an opportunity to view the winners of the 2014 AIA Memphis Design Awards for excellence in architecture. The exhibit, located at the AIA Memphis Gallery, 511 S. Main St., is free and open to the public.

The history at the Four-Way Restaurant is as rich and soulful as the food.

The walls of the South Memphis institution are decorated with photographs of politicians, athletes, entertainers, business leaders and civil rights icons – including the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – who made the famous restaurant at Mississippi Boulevard and Walker Avenue a “home away from home.”

4. Tying it All Together -

Two of the city’s high-profile architecture firms are behind the design enhancement of one of Memphis’ most cherished spots – Overton Square.

LRK Inc. is the architect of record for both Loeb Properties Inc.’s $20 million revitalization of the Midtown theater district and also for the city’s parking garage at Monroe Avenue and Florence Street.

NASHVILLE (AP) – Peyton Manning remains on the Colts' roster, and the Titans have three quarterbacks already.

Still, Titans' fans of the NFL's only four-time MVP expecting the injured QB to be released and healthy enough to play are starting an ad campaign in Indianapolis hoping to convince Manning to return to Tennessee.

David Schuermann, president of Architecture Inc., said his 16-year-old Downtown firm specializes in renovations and restorations to existing buildings.

10. Caravan Event A 'Blowout' Success -

Two of Memphis’ biggest musical assets came together last week when Ardent Studios hosted the Beale Street Caravan’s annual Blowout fundraiser.

Ardent has been bringing in major talent to Memphis for years: The Vaughn Brothers, the White Stripes, ZZ Top and B.B. King have all recorded there. The Beale Street Caravan has been exposing the world to Memphis music for years.

11. Dress Newest Pathologist At Pathology Group of the MidSouth -

Dr. Matthew A. Dress has joined Pathology Group of the MidSouth PC as its newest pathologist.

Before joining Pathology Group of the MidSouth, Dress served as the chief resident in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Tennessee. He then completed a fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Rochester Medical Center-Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. 

12. 14 Applicants File for Two Judicial Vacancies -

Two vacancies in the western divisions of two state appeals courts have drawn a lot of interest from attorneys and judges in West Tennessee.

A total of 14 applicants filed with the Tennessee Judicial Selection Commission for both vacancies by Friday’s deadline.

13. Local Businessman to Head State Insurance Group -

Brad V. Smith, president of Cecil Smith Insurance Agency in Germantown, was elected president of Insurors of Tennessee. Smith has served on the association's board of directors and executive committee for 12 years. He won the group's Chairman of the Year award in 2004 and Insuror of the Year award in 1992.
