1. Volunteers Play Growing Role in Hospice Care -

As the population ages, hospice and the volunteers who provide comfort and support to end-of-life patients and their families play a significant role in more lives.

“There’s a great need for care, and end-of-life issues right now are a real concern, and it takes a village to help care for someone at this stage in their life,” said Sandra Livesay, volunteer coordinator for Baptist Trinity Hospice, which will host a volunteer training session at its offices, 6141 Walnut Grove Road, Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Shelby Residential & Vocational Services hosts "Spirit of SRVS: A Wine/Beer Tasting and Silent Auction" today from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Hilton Memphis, 939 Ridge Lake Blvd. The fund-raiser, which will benefit more than 800 developmentally disabled people served by SRVS, will feature wines and beer from around the world, appetizers, music, auctions and more. Tickets cost $45 and are available at the door, online at www.srvs.org or by calling 869-9261.

3. Crichton Hosts Golf Classic To Benefit Athletics Department -

Aug. 21

The first Crichton College Golf Classic benefiting the Crichton Comets athletics department is at 1 p.m. at the Tournament Players Club at Southwind, 3225 Club at Southwind.
