WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama paid tribute Wednesday to former President John F. Kennedy's legacy, joining former President Bill Clinton to lay a wreath at Kennedy's grave and presenting a freedom medal that Kennedy conceived before his assassination 50 years ago this week.

Over the last four years, the next chapter in the development of Beale Street has been a stop-and-go affair. First would come announcements followed by silence from official channels.

Along with that silence, though, was quiet activity on the side, a movement that culminated with the March announcement of Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr.’s strategic planning committee’s report, “A Framework for Beale Street.”

The glory of the past and the art of the present collide along the Mississippi River as West Memphis-based DeltaARTS unveils a first-time event.

“Art on the Levee at Waverly Plantation” will showcase one of the few remaining Antebellum homes on the Mississippi River levee in Eastern Arkansas, on Saturday, April 28.

11. U of M Appoints Meredith Director of Admissions -

Dr. Todd Preston has joined the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s Department of Otolaryngology as a specialist in head and neck cancer and reconstructive surgery. He also has been named assistant professor at UTHSC. Preston comes from the University of Iowa, where he completed his residency in head and neck surgery and was a clinical instructor.

12. Vesta to Showcase Rossville Homes -

Karen Garner remembers the inaugural Vesta Home Show in 1984, when she worked in the concession stand as one of many volunteer homebuilders.

Nearly a quarter century later – after working every Vesta Home Show since its debut – Garner is president of Magnolia Homes Inc. and one of the featured builders at this year’s installment of the event, run by the Memphis Area Home Builders Association (MAHBA).

Keith Morris of 4M Land Co. in Somerville was honored with the 2005 Land Realtor of America award by the Realtors Land Institute. Morris, current president of the Tennesseen RLI chapter, is the first Tennessean to receive the award. He graduated from the University of Memphis.
