Sekisui is moving from its original location in the Shops of Humphreys Center, 50 Humphreys Blvd., into Circa by John Bragg’s space in Regalia Shopping Center at 6150 Poplar Ave., suite 122. Circa plans to relocate west to Chickasaw Crossing, 2855 Poplar, in the space where Ronnie Grisanti’s restaurant operated for years.

A quality one doesn’t find often in chefs is modesty. We’ve all dined at restaurants where the primary ingredient is the chef’s ego, served with side-dishes of arrogance and hubris.
Fortunato Oliva, on the other hand, is happy to admit the debt he owes to his family – especially his grandmother, mother and aunt – and to the mentors he worked with since he was 16 years old, that is, for half his life.

It turns out that you can go home again; at least Jonathan Steenerson did. The original chef at Ciao Bella when that salad, pasta and pizza restaurant opened in November 2001, next to Kroger in Mendenhall Commons, Steenerson is back as executive chef of the Ciao Bella that moved a few blocks west in November 2007 to the Erin Way Shopping Center and much larger digs.

When I was in New York last week, attending a three-day conference on Italian wine, my one major meal outside the hotel was at Morandi, an Italian restaurant at Waverly Place and Seventh Avenue in Greenwich Village. This is a sole venture into Italian food for restaurateur Keith McNally, whose French-inspired outposts, from Odeon in TriBeca to Balthazar in SoHo to Pastis in the Meatpacking District, not only defined casual Gallic dining below 14th Street but helped to establish their neighborhoods as destinations.

Today’s column was supposed to be an interview with Judd Grisanti and his father, Ronnie, but when I arrived at Judd Grisanti’s Trattoria for a 2:30 appointment, I was informed that he had departed. He never returned. What transpired was a frank interview with Ronnie Grisanti that sheds light on family conflicts going back two generations.

If you question the notions that we return to our beginnings, that wheels go full circle, that, um, time is a river and so on, look at Joshua Laban Perkins.
Perkins, 37, was sous chef at The Grove Grill when that restaurant opened in Laurelwood in 1997. Shortly thereafter, he went to Europe, studied at a culinary academy in Piedmont, worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in northeastern Italy, returned to this country, ran several successful restaurants in Atlanta and now is back in Memphis as Grove Grill’s executive chef.

Kent J. Rubens of the West Memphis law firm Rieves, Rubens & Mayton passed away Wednesday from complications of a brain aneurysm. Although based in Arkansas, Rubens was a well-known litigator in the Memphis legal community.

NASHVILLE (AP) - Restaurant owners across the state may have to pay thousands each to shore up a workers' compensation fund that the state says was mismanaged.
The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance is suing Ronnie Hart, the president and chief executive of the Tennessee Restaurant Association. Among other things, the suit claims Hart received excessive fees for running the group's workers' compensation fund.

If everything goes as planned, the Grisanti family could be returning to South Main Street, where their first restaurant opened in 1909.
Plans are in the works to open a 100-seat restaurant this summer in Glasshouse 383, a gallery at 383 S. Main St. that sells studio art glass.
