Netland, a Siegal Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), is the director of the Glaucoma Service and vice chair for academic affairs for the UTHSC Department of Ophthalmology. Ward's bachelor's degree in law enforcement and his law degree are both from the University of Memphis.
