1. Agape Helps Families Out of Homelessness -

Agape Child & Family Services continues to grow its Families In Transition program, which provides housing to homeless women who have children or are pregnant.

This year, the program will simultaneously serve 63 families, with an impact to more than 150 families.

2. Towns Named to Southern College of Optometry Board -

Leticia “Tish” Towns, senior vice president of external relations for the Regional Medical Center at Memphis, has been named to the Southern College of Optometry board of trustees. Among her duties at The MED, Towns oversees the development of the hospital’s strategic plan and manages marketing and communications, community engagement, the Traumatic Brain Injury program, government relations and pastoral care.

Conventional wisdom has long held that whenever economic troubles arise, companies should quickly slash their advertising and marketing budgets, allowing them to weather whatever storm is raging.

Not surprisingly, plenty of Memphis-area businesses have honored that adage by shelving their rebranding campaigns or reducing their media buys. Even FedEx Corp. broke a 12-year tradition by refusing to advertise during the Super Bowl because of the dreary economic climate.

She's right. They are.

If there's one thing I've learned in life - usually the hard way - you can try to be as intelligent as Albert Einstein, as wealthy as Donald Trump, as self-righteous as a televangelist or as fetching as Christie Brinkley, but if you don't make an effort to relate well to others, you're sunk.
