1. Vols: Looks Like 6-6 Season -

Fall camp is done, and it’s time to get in game-week mode with the season opener against Utah State fast approaching.

Kiwanis Club of Memphis will meet Wednesday, June 25, from noon to 1 p.m. at The University Club of Memphis, 1346 Central Ave. The guest speakers are Jessica Jackson and Amanda Yuen, administrators at Corning Elementary School, Kiwanis Club of Memphis’ Adopt-a-School. Cost is $18 for nonmembers.

3. Beale Street Music Festival Lineup Announced -

The bill for the three-day Memphis in May Beale Street Music this year features a new night of late night dance music from a stage in Tom Lee Park and a 69-act lineup in which Memphis artists are nearly a third of the diverse set of performers.

4. Spotlight on SEC Entering Week 3 -

Whether the rest of the country wants to admit it or not, the SEC has survived early and notable non-conference losses. In fact, the league is front and center for Week 3 of the college football season.

5. Byrnes to Take MAHBA Reins -

Tommy Byrnes of Byrnes Ostner Investments Inc. will serve as 2010 president of the Memphis Area Home Builders Association, the group’s executive director, Don Glays, said this week.

11. Vesta to Showcase Rossville Homes -

Karen Garner remembers the inaugural Vesta Home Show in 1984, when she worked in the concession stand as one of many volunteer homebuilders.

Nearly a quarter century later – after working every Vesta Home Show since its debut – Garner is president of Magnolia Homes Inc. and one of the featured builders at this year’s installment of the event, run by the Memphis Area Home Builders Association (MAHBA).
