1. Graceland May Remove Presley's Old Airplanes -

MEMPHIS (AP) — For 30 years, tourists from around the world have paid money to get a look at two airplanes once owned by Elvis Presley at Graceland in Memphis. Fans enjoy touring the planes for their direct connection to Presley and his jet-setting lifestyle, a sort of touchstone to the life of the King of Rock and Roll and his family.

3. Weddle-West Voted GRE Board Chair-Elect -

Dr. Karen Weddle-West, dean of the graduate school, vice provost for academic affairs and director of diversity initiatives at the University of Memphis, has been voted chair-elect of the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) Board. The national board establishes all policies for the GRE program, the most widely used graduate-school admissions test, and oversees GRE assessments, services and research.

4. ‘One-Stop Shop’ -

A few Memphis-area community banks are starting to add investment services to their mix of offerings.

They include Magna Bank, which now is working with Cary Allen, a representative of independent investment securities firm LPL Financial Services.

5. Phillips Joins Spirco as Manager, Vice President -

Mike Phillips has joined Spirco Manufacturing as general manager and vice president of operations. In his new role, Phillips will oversee all divisions of the metal-building manufacturer and direct its organizational needs.

6. Wright’s Compliance Officer Resigns -

Another top executive has resigned from Wright Medical Group Inc. Vice president and chief compliance officer Lisa L. Michels resigned from the company Tuesday, Aug. 16, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing signed Friday, Aug. 19, by Wright Medical Interim CEO David Stevens.

7. Memphis Aces -

The Racquet Club of Memphis is in full swing this week as it hosts the 2011 Regions Morgan Keegan Championships & Cellular South Cup through Feb. 20.
