5. WMC Cuts 15 Jobs - NBC affiliate WMC-TV laid off about 10 percent of its employees Tuesday, general manager Lee Meredith told The Daily News.

The station, which employs between 140-150 people, laid off 15 who worked in divisions across the spectrum of the station’s operation. Meredith said the layoffs included on-air personalities such as Bill Lunn, who was the station’s midday anchor, sports anchor/reporter Dave Cera and anchor Donna Davis.

Davis, along with Joe Birch, anchored the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts for the station.

“It’s no secret the broadcasting industry and our station – we’re not immune to the economic difficulties that exist across the country right now, including here in our own market in Memphis,” Meredith said. “Ad revenues are challenged at the moment. In order for our station to position itself for the challenges ahead, we have taken the difficult step of reducing some of our staff today.”

Meredith said no additional layoffs will be forthcoming in the foreseeable future.

6. Rogers Named News Director at WMC-TV -      Tracey Rogers has joined WMC-TV 5 as news director. Her first day will be Feb. 19.
     Rogers previously was a news director at WAFF-TV, Raycom Media's station in Huntsville, Ala.

7. WMC TV General Manager Brings Award-Winning Broadcast Journalism to New Role -

Lee Meredith comes across as sincere, generous and hard-working. He's also the new vice president and general manager of WMC TV-5.

Meredith started his new job in late August after Howard Meagle resigned the post for personal reasons. Meredith had worked in a similar position at WAFF TV in Huntsville, Ala., since 2001.

Sarah Meyerrose has been promoted to president of emerging national businesses for First Horizon National Corp. In her new role, she will be the executive leader of several of First Horizon's growing national efforts, such as its health savings accounts business, Msaver, and its commercial insurance business, Synaxis. Meyerrose has worked for First Horizon for more than 24 years.
