The Memphis Bar Association poll of attorneys on the judicial races on the Aug. 7 ballot shows 16 percent to as high as 38 percent of the attorneys participating have no opinion in many of the judicial races.

5. Harris Files Ford Challenge at Deadline -

Memphis City Council member Lee Harris is challenging Democratic state Sen. Ophelia Ford in the August primary for District 29, the Senate seat held by a member of the Ford family since 1975.

6. 15 Vie for County Commission Seat -

Shelby County Commissioners will interview a group of 15 citizens Wednesday, Jan. 8, who want to become the newest member of the elected body.

The committee session interviews come before the full commission is to vote Monday, Jan. 13, on a replacement for Commissioner Wyatt Bunker.

7. Rock’n Dough Pizza Opening in Jackson -

The little Memphis pizzeria that could will soon be opening a new location in Jackson, Tenn.

The Rock’n Dough Pizza Co., owned by Jeremy and Amanda Denno, is slated to open a new restaurant and microbrewery at the Jackson Walk development in Jackson in October. The Dennos will team up with veteran local brewer Ben Pugh to create signature suds at the 4,100-square-foot restaurant.

8. Johnny Football Frenzy Knows No Bounds -

HOOVER, Ala. – This being SEC Media Days and him being Johnny Football, the blitz was inevitable. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel moved from room to room while grown men and women toting microphones, cameras and tape recorders pursued him like so many bad actors fulfilling the clichéd media moment in a made-for-TV movie.

Tarasha Payne has joined Fulton CPAs PLLC as a senior accountant in the areas of taxation, compilation and reviews, and client services. Payne has more than 15 years’ experience in the field and is working toward CPA certification. 11. Tapley Ranks 13th on National List of Most Successful Realtors -

Jimmie Tapley of Crye-Leike Realtors has been named the country’s 13th most successful residential Realtor by REAL Trends Inc. and The Wall Street Journal. The ranking is based on the number of real estate agents’ closed transactions in 2011. Tapley’s sales volume for the year totaled 437 transaction sides.

Memphis-based Wunderlich Securities Inc. has added six institutional fixed-income professionals over the past two months, continuing a growth streak for the firm that’s seen multiple offices open within the past year and scores of new employees hired.

14. High Court Reins in Prosecutors' Use of Fraud Law -

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Thursday sharply curtailed prosecutors' use of an anti-fraud law that was central in convicting politicians and corporate executives in many of the nation's most prominent corruption cases. The ex-CEO of disgraced energy giant Enron and a Canadian media mogul, both in prison, are among the figures who could benefit from the ruling.

16. Rosa Becomes GM at Holiday Inn-Wolfchase -

Chris Rosa has been named general manger of the Holiday Inn and Suites Memphis-Wolfchase. Rosa will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the property. He previously served as vice president of operations for Equity Estates, general manger at the Sheraton Meadowlands and area manger of the Crowne Plaza Ravinia in Atlanta. Rosa also has been named General Manager of the Year by Patriot American Hotels and Hotelier of the Year by the Connecticut Hospitality Association.

Linda Martin has joined UT Medical Group Inc. as vice president of corporate compliance.

18. St. Jude's Evans Elected Chair-Elect of National Group -

William Evans, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital director and CEO, has been elected as chair-elect of the Pharmaceutical Sciences section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
