1. Marketing Makeover -

Two Memphis-area nonprofits are six months away from a 180-degree turnaround in their respective public relations efforts.

West Tennessee Veterans Home and the PRIZM Ensemble music group have won six months of free PR and marketing services from Obsidian Public Relations as part of the firm’s yearly PR 180 project. The project’s goal is simple: At the end of the period, Obsidian will have helped two nonprofits achieve a 180-degree improvement toward marketing and publicity success.

2. Daniels Takes on New Role at Greater Memphis Chamber -

The Greater Memphis Chamber has promoted Amy Daniels to the newly created position of senior vice president, membership and communications. Daniels, who has worked at the chamber for 17 years, will now oversee the membership department while continuing in her prior role, leading the communications and programming department.

3. Obsidian Gets New Leader in Memphis Office -

After working to help grow Obsidian Public Relations’ branch in Dallas since early 2012, Kerri Guyton has returned to Memphis to take over daily management of the PR firm’s local team.

4. 'We Made a Mistake' -

Like a carpenter who utilizes an arsenal of powerful tools with extreme caution – because they hold enough power to accidentally saw off a finger or a hand – PR professionals carefully craft statements and key messages for brands because they too have the potential to “cut off” something valuable to a company – like an entire target audience. The statement “we made a mistake” is one of the most powerful declarations a brand can make, but as with all powerful things, it must be used carefully and with precision.

5. Engage Social Media for Restaurant Success -

Let’s be blunt: If a restaurant does not utilize every available form of social media, it risks losing a competitive edge. And just having a website doesn’t count anymore, especially a website that doesn’t do anything for the customer and isn’t up-to-date. A restaurant must maintain an active and reactive website, Facebook page and Twitter account, and it doesn’t hurt to post videos frequently to YouTube.

6. Eighty3 Brings New Dining to Madison -

The Madison Hotel’s Grill 83 has received a major face-lift, aiming to lure customers in its doors on a regular basis versus merely for special occasions.

After two weeks of renovations, the rebranded eatery opened its doors Wednesday, Nov. 16, under the name Eighty3, with two new chefs and more urban architecture.

7. Argo Joins Crews & Associates as Vice President -

Hayden C. Argo Jr. has joined Crews & Associates Inc. as vice president for the investment-banking firm in the Memphis market. Argo will conduct fixed income securities sales.
