Shawn Flynn and Ryan Ramkhelawan have, both literally and figuratively, come a long way in a few months.
They moved to Memphis recently to bring their medical industry-focused startup here and take it through the inaugural round of a new startup accelerator program, ZeroTo510. Since the end of that program – a boot camp-style mix of mentorship, networking and related instruction that came with an infusion of cash – their startup Restore Medical Solutions got a term sheet and an invitation to negotiate for a Series A round of venture capital funding.

Instead of taking it easy during the holidays, Innova officials will be calling on the corporate offices of insurance companies in a quest to raise $20 million by Jan. 1.
Insurance companies that invest with Innova Fund II LP – one of six venture funds selected Friday for a new state economic development initiative – will receive tax credits. The credits will allow insurance companies to offset a portion of their premium tax liabilities while they provide funding for fast-growth startup ventures.

Woody is the first president of Innova, a novel business development project spun out of Memphis Bioworks Foundation.
