The annual St. Louis Cardinals Caravan rolls into Memphis on Sunday, Jan. 19, for a visit to AutoZone Park.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with the event scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. in the Champions Club on the club level of the ballpark.

3. Cardinals Recall Martinez to Start Thursday -

ST. LOUIS (AP) – The St. Louis Cardinals recalled right-hander Carlos Martinez from Triple-A Memphis to make his first career start Thursday night against the Dodgers.

4. E. Coli Scare Affects Ground Beef Bought in Memphis Area -

CINCINNATI (AP) – Tyson Fresh Meats Inc. is recalling about 131,300 pounds of ground beef – including some sold in the Memphis area and other parts of The Kroger Co.’s Delta Division – because a family in Ohio fell ill after eating meat produced by the company that was contaminated with E. coli, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported Wednesday.

The Metro Charter Commission’s formation last year represented the most meaningful move toward consolidation in almost 40 years.

6. Mayor Herenton's Executive Assistant Moves to MLGW -

Gale Jones Carson has been named director of corporate communications for Memphis Light, Gas & Water Division. In her new executive-level position, she will report directly to MLGW president and CEO Joseph Lee III. She previously was executive assistant to Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton.

7. Public Administrator Named for Probate Court -

The Shelby County Commission appointed Scott Peatross to the position of public administrator in Shelby County Probate Court. Peatross is a partner in the law firm of Bateman Gibson LLC. He graduated from Rhodes College and Tulane Law School.
