5. MAAR Elects 2011-2012 Board of Directors -

The Memphis Area Association of Realtors elected its board of directors for 2011-2012 at its annual meeting and election last week.

MAAR members elected six real estate agents to serve on the board during the next two years.

William R. Bradley Jr. has been named chief manager of Glankler Brown PLLC.

Bradley’s primary practice areas include intellectual property, maintenance and litigation, antitrust counseling and litigation, business litigation, and construction litigation.

7. Rhea Receives WKNO’s Distinguished Service Award -

Stephen H. Rhea has received the Julian Bondurant Distinguished Service Award from WKNO Public Broadcasting.

Rhea is the WKNO Capital Campaign chair and led the campaign for the digital transition that brought in $16.9 million. The campaign enabled the station to build the Digital Media Center.

The Regional Medical Center at Memphis contends it’s entitled to a chunk of the settlements many of its patients receive from automobile accidents and other injury-causing events, but some of those patients are challenging that assertion.

9. Arkansas Best Trims Employees As Demand Declines -

Trucking company Arkansas Best Corp. laid off 1,100 employees in the fourth quarter of 2008 and another 350 in January as freight demand declined, Chief Financial Officer Judy R. McReynolds said Wednesday.

10. Pogue to Lead Public Affairs For Local Corps of Engineers -

Jim Pogue has been selected chief of the Public Affairs Office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District.

Pogue has worked for the Corps of Engineers for more than 19 years in public affairs positions. Pogue will be responsible for managing the Memphis District’s public information, internal communications and community relations programs.

Young women often form ideas about love and how women should be treated in relationships by seeing how they interact with men in their families, and how they see women in their families being treated by men. That’s why one local nonprofit organization is holding an event this weekend to promote positive relationships between fathers and daughters.

12. Hampton Hotels Names Smith Senior Director of Product Service -

Kurt Smith has been named senior director of product service and development at Hampton Hotels. Previously, Smith served Hampton as director of global brand integration. Prior to that position, he was the director of hotel performance support.

13. Prestidge Chosen to Head Kroger Delta Division -

Mark Prestidge has been promoted to president of The Kroger Co.'s Delta Division. The Delta Division is based in Memphis and includes 111 Kroger stores in Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee. Prestidge succeeds Richard Tillman, who recently announced his retirement after a 42-year career with Kroger. Prestidge previously served as vice president of operations for Kroger's Southwest Division.

14. MATCU Banks on Judy Conrad as VP of Lending -

Judy Conrad has been named vice president of lending at Memphis Area Teachers' Credit Union (MATCU). Conrad previously served as vice president and manager of BankTennessee in Ripley. She has worked in the financial industry for almost 40 years.

15. Local Resident Named Land Realtor of America -

Keith Morris of 4M Land Co. in Somerville was honored with the 2005 Land Realtor of America award by the Realtors Land Institute. Morris, current president of the Tennesseen RLI chapter, is the first Tennessean to receive the award. He graduated from the University of Memphis.
