In the first voting meeting of the new four-year term of office, the Shelby County Commission approved Monday, Sept. 8, County Mayor Mark Luttrell’s reappointment of Harvey Kennedy as chief administrative officer, Mike Swift as finance director, Yvonne Matlock as health services director, John Halbert as chief information officer, Tom Needham as public works director and Richard Copeland as director of the city-county Office of Planning and Development. Memphis school board members Betty Mallott and Martavius Jones were unopposed at Thursday’s filing deadline for the four Memphis school board races on the Nov. 2 ballot. Noon was the deadline for candidates to file their qualifying petitions in the school board races as well as three sets of municipal elections in Bartlett, Collierville and Germantown.

14. Barrow Named Chef de Cuisine At Capriccio Grill -

The Peabody Hotel has named Brian Barrow chef de cuisine for Capriccio Grill, an Italian steakhouse. Barrow began his culinary career at 27. He attended Johnson & Wales University's College of Culinary Arts in Miami. He previously was a chef at the Ambassador Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and with Do & Co International Catering.

15. Reynolds Named Head Baseball Coach at STCC -

Alan "Bo" Reynolds has been named the new head baseball coach at Southwest Tennessee Community College. He previously worked at Olive Branch High School, where he was head baseball coach in 2005-2006 after serving as assistant coach from 2003 to 2005. He also coached at Rhodes College from 1990 to 2003, where he was both an assistant coach and head coach and the University of Memphis from 1987 to 1990. There, he was an assistant under head coach Bobby Kilpatrick.

16. Melick Tapped to Manage Fixed Income Banking Group at Morgan Keegan & Co. -

Jordan Melick has joined Morgan Keegan & Co. Inc. as a managing director for the firm's Fixed Income Banking Group. Melick previously was managing director of the health care finance team of Minneapolis, Minn.-based Piper Jaffray & Co. He began his career in health financing in 1991 at Detroit-based Comerica Bank.

Philip E. Maness has been appointed director of national accounts and executive vice president of First Mercantile in Cordova. He began his career with First Mercantile in 1984, serving most recently as strategic planning officer.
