The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced Wednesday that it’s expanding support nationwide to caregivers of veterans with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia following the success of a proven behavioral intervention pilot program that originated in the Memphis VA Medical Center.
4. Gibbons Creates Special Victims Unit

Shelby County District Attorney General Bill Gibbons is creating a new special victims unit effective Wednesday that will prosecute all cases of rape, aggravated rape, child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse. The unit expands the office’s child protection investigative team and will also handle other cases such as nursing home abuse.

Two Memphis high schools, St. Mary’s Episcopal School and White Station High School, placed first and second, respectively, in the regional competition Feb. 24 and are moving forward to compete in the state championships Friday and Saturday.

Scott C. Hennessy, president and chief executive officer of True Temper Sports, has joined the board of directors of Memphis Opportunity Scholarship Trust.
Hennessy will help direct the operations and growth of the nonprofit organization, which provides scholarships and tuition assistance. Hennessy also serves on the Board of Governors of the National Golf Foundation.
7. Dr. Lendel Joins Memphis Heart Clinic

Dr. Vasili Lendel has joined Memphis Heart Clinic. Lendel is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology. A native of Siberia, Lendel received the Russian Government Award for Academic Excellence. He did his cardiology fellowship at Penn State's medical center in Hershey, Penn., where he received the Chief Cardiology Fellow award.
