Stephen Hegdale has been named general manger of BarDett, dba A.S. Barboro, a Memphis-based distributor of Miller and Coors beer with ties to Nashville’s Det Distributing Co.

8. Factory Orders Strengthen, Home Sales Contracts Up -

WASHINGTON (AP) — A surprisingly busy month for U.S. factories and a surge in home buying are the latest signs that the economic recovery is picking up.

Orders to U.S. factories rose 1.3 percent in March, the Commerce Department said Tuesday. That was much better than the 0.1 percent decline analysts had expected. Excluding the volatile transportation sector, orders gained 3.1 percent, the biggest increase since August 2005.

9. Methodist University Hospital Names Essex Assistant Administrator -

Jeshahnton “Shaun” Essex has been named assistant administrator at Methodist University Hospital.

Essex will be responsible for environmental services, mail services, food and nutrition services, laboratory, radiology and facility and engineering services. Essex has served as assistant administrator at Methodist North Hospital the past four years.

10. Higgins Named President, CEO At Barge Waggoner -

Robert B. Higgins Jr. has been named president and chief executive officer of engineering, architecture and planning for Barge Waggoner Sumner & Cannon Inc.

11. Drompp Named Faculty Dean, VP for Academic Affairs at Rhodes -

Michael R. Drompp has been appointed dean of the faculty and vice president for academic affairs at Rhodes College. Drompp will provide leadership for academic departments and interdisciplinary programs in curricular, personnel and budgetary matters.

12. Herrington Named Field Director at Shoemaker Financial -

Jason Herrington, a financial adviser at Shoemaker Financial, has been named a field director for the firm. He will have the responsibility of advising and mentoring new advisers during their two-year training period.

13. Local Resident Named Land Realtor of America -

Keith Morris of 4M Land Co. in Somerville was honored with the 2005 Land Realtor of America award by the Realtors Land Institute. Morris, current president of the Tennesseen RLI chapter, is the first Tennessean to receive the award. He graduated from the University of Memphis.
