1. May Primary Ballot Almost Complete -

The ballot for the May Shelby County primary elections isn’t quite set, although the Shelby County Election Commission has certified 81 candidates.

Still awaiting a decision at a special meeting Wednesday, March 5, are three would-be candidates whose residency is being formally challenged.

2. Democratic Commission Majority Could Be Safe in Elections -

With a week to the filing deadline for candidates in the May 6 Shelby County primary elections, it looks as if Democrats will retain their seven-member majority on the Shelby County Commission.

The commission switches to a set of 13 single-member districts with the 2014 elections instead of the current structure of one single-member district and four districts each represented by three commissioners.

3. Fittes Opens Commission Campaign -

Retired Memphis Police Major Ron Fittes opened his campaign for Shelby County Commission Tuesday, Jan. 21, by telling a group of more than 80 supporters in Germantown that the commission will be his full-time job if elected.
