1. Questions Raised About 100 N. Main Developer -

Clarification: The article in the June 16 issue of The Memphis Daily News about 100 N. Main developer Isaac Thomas contains facts from a judge’s opinion rendered after a civil judgment – not a criminal case – in Connecticut that held Thomas liable for an investor's $80,000 loss in a real estate venture. After a civil trial, Thomas was found liable under the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act and was ordered to pay $160,000 plus attorney fees and costs. While he was also found liable for conversion, unjust enrichment and breach of fiduciary duty, no additional damages were awarded for those claims. Thomas was not criminally charged.

Memphis City Council member Lee Harris is challenging Democratic state Sen. Ophelia Ford in the August primary for District 29, the Senate seat held by a member of the Ford family since 1975.

Lauren Bigger has joined preclinical services company TriMetis, a subsidiary of Memphis Bioworks Foundation, as a business development specialist. In her new role, Bigger will work with the operations and scientific teams to drive new projects for the TriMetis specialized laboratory and manage the sales and protocol review processes.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A federal spending surge of more than $20 billion for roads and bridges in President Barack Obama's first stimulus has had no effect on local unemployment rates, raising questions about his argument for billions more to address an "urgent need to accelerate job growth."

20. Memphis Music Foundation Elects Bell Chairman -

Al Bell has been elected the new chairman of the Memphis Music Foundation.
Under Bell’s direction, the foundation will continue to provide education, strategic planning and promotional opportunities to the Memphis music industry.
Bell is the former chairman and owner of Stax Records and former president of Motown Records. Bell has worked with artists such as Booker T and the MG’s, Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Albert King, Rufus Thomas, Isaac Hayes and Richard Pryor.

21. Stax Owner Given Ahmet Ertegun Award -

Al Bell, the former Stax Records owner and current Memphis Music Foundation Board member, has been awarded the Ahmet Ertegun Leadership Award from the Rhythm & Blues Foundation at its annual Pioneer Awards presentation in Philadelphia.

22. Jury Awards Mattel Inc. $100 Million in Bratz Suit -

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - A federal jury awarded Mattel Inc. $100 million in damages Tuesday after a serious girl fight between the house of Barbie and the maker of her chief rival, the pouty-lipped Bratz dolls.

23. Part of Memphis Union Mission to Move East -

Thirty-five-year-old Melinda came to the Memphis Union Mission's Women's Care Center bound in handcuffs and leg shackles a little more than two and a half years ago.

Jailed for two DUIs and about 25 other driving charges, she had an arrest history that dated back to 1988.

24. Downtown Concert Series Set to Start -

Next week, the sound of music that draws Downtowners and suburban visitors alike to Calvary Episcopal Church will again fill the church's rafters, just as it's done for 21 years.

Calvary & the Arts. The historic church at 102 N. Second St. is kicking off its popular Calvary & the Arts concert series Oct. 5 with a presentation honoring Isaac Hayes. Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton Jr. will be on hand to honor the performer, who was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame in June, as will the 40-piece Stax Academy Charter School Orchestra and Hayes' own back-up band, NuJynisis.
