6. Commercial Council Elects deWitt, Reilly as Top Leaders -

The Memphis Area Association of Realtors Commercial Council announced its 2013 officers and directors Thursday, Aug. 9, at its annual Member Appreciation and Election Party.

Greg deWitt of Grubb & Ellis Memphis will serve as 2013 president. Patrick Reilly of CB Richard Ellis Memphis will serve as vice president.

10. Staples to Build First Memphis Location -

The world’s largest office products company will soon enter the Memphis market.

Framingham, Mass.-based Staples Inc. has signed a 17,945-square-foot lease at Ridgeway Trace, the shopping center at Poplar Avenue and Interstate 240 developed by Houston-based Weingarten Realty Investors.

What have been your most rewarding professional accomplishments? Being able to work in a wide variety of land deals, ranging from subdivision development to buying and selling of farm and hunting land. Along with that, helping people realize their goals in those areas.

12. Pyramid Future Remains Unknown Despite Bass Pro Exec Visit -

The head of Bass Pro Shops picked an interesting day to visit Memphis.

Bass Pro President and CEO Jim Hagale held a series of private meetings Downtown Thursday with city and county government leaders. The meetings came within an hour of a private luncheon a few blocks away in which Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton announced he is resigning effective at the end of July.

13. Officials Want Would-Be Pyramid Developers To Put Up or Shut Up -

Shelby County Board of Commissioners members and their counterparts on the Memphis City Council don't seem to be interested in seeing anymore artist renderings or PowerPoint presentations of what might be in The Pyramid.
