Literacy Mid-South is spending part of this month literally surrounded by books.

The nonprofit, which is promoting the national Read Across America initiative in March, is in the process of collecting some 3,000 books (valued at $48,000) to give away. And in the meantime, those books will need to be somehow stored in the organization’s 1,300-square-foot office.

The national Read Across America event happens in March, and Literacy Mid-South will have special events, book giveaways, author visits and more throughout the month. Gyasi C. Chisley has joined Methodist North Hospital as CEO. In his new role, Chisley will lead thousands of associates and aligned and contracted medical staff. He says that as health care transitions from volume to value, his platform is to grow outpatient practices, physicians and services while creating a viable patient-centered environment.

4. Girls Night Out Promotes Heart Health for Women -

The Memphis Chapter of the American Heart Association is gearing up for Girls Night Out, a fundraiser for heart health slated for Thursday, May 3, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hilton Memphis hotel, 939 Ridge Lake Blvd.

5. Former Memphian: RNC Bid a ‘Return to Party Values’ -

He did it as he stood Monday morning in Nashville flanked by Tennessee Lieutenant Gov. Ron Ramsey and former U.S. Sen. Bill Frist. He let it show in a recent letter he sent to the members of the Republican National Committee.
