Essex Bargain Hunt has leased 35,767 square feet at 590 N. Germantown Parkway and 41,534 square feet at 5124 Summer Ave. Kemp Conrad and Neely Mallory IV of Cushman & Wakefield/Commercial Advisors LLC represented the tenant in both transactions.

One area that has seemed to thrive in the recession is discount retailers, including thrift and dollar stores. Low-cost operators, including nonprofit organizations like Memphis Goodwill Industries, are able to find more affordable property than in previous years. Habitat for Humanity of Memphis is in the process of relocating to a much larger facility to accommodate its growing base of clients, programs and services.
The local affiliate of the organization – an international ecumenical Christian housing ministry working to provide affordable, quality shelter for all people – makes home ownership affordable for Mid-South families for whom it might otherwise be out-of-reach, by not charging interest or profit on the mortgage and keeping the cost of construction low through the use of volunteer labor.

The value of a corporate dollar may have seen some decreases in the last few years, but the value of a corporate hour – a volunteer hour that is – is going up.
In 2009 one volunteer hour was equal to $19.51 in labor value, up from $17.55 in 2005, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2009 the Independent Sector, a coalition of national charities, raised the figure to $20.85.

BancorpSouth Donates 29 Acres to Habitat -

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis has received a land donation of 29 acres from BancorpSouth for the Lake Las Cruces neighborhood in Raleigh.
Memphis Habitat purchased 44 developed lots in the area from BancorpSouth with federal money awarded through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. BancorpSouth donated the adjoining undeveloped 29 acres for future Habitat projects.

Trinity Park, the first all-green neighborhood being developed by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis, reached an important milestone last week when crews began site work on the project.
After years of fundraising – and those efforts are still under way – the $3.1 million, 38-home neighborhood will begin taking form on 8.6 acres at Winchester and Tchulahoma roads in Oakhaven near Memphis International Airport.

Habitat for Humanity’s goal of launching its first entirely “green” neighborhood in Memphis has moved a step closer with a $263,060 infrastructure grant from the Plough Foundation.
The money will be used for development costs and the construction of a community resource center at Trinity Park, a $3.1 million, 38-home neighborhood that Habitat will launch next year on 8.6 acres at Winchester and Tchulahoma roads near Memphis International Airport.
