Come mid-July, local restaurateur Aldo Dean will launch Aldo’s Pizza Pies, his group’s third concept in Memphis and second in Downtown’s Central Business District.

Dean is one of three partners behind the new 3,900-square-foot restaurant on the ground floor of Henry Turley Co.’s Barboro Flats at 100 S. Main St. Adam Slovis of Slovis & Associates LLC represented Dean and his group in its seven-year lease for Aldo’s Pizza Pies.

3. Many Cities Imposing Broad Cuts as Revenue Shrinks -

WASHINGTON (AP) – More than half of U.S. cities have cut staff, canceled construction projects or raised fees this year, according to a report from the National League of Cities that catalogs the vast damage from shrunken property- and income-tax revenue.

4. Emphasis on Education -

The gross domestic product of manufacturing in Tennessee has risen by 25 percent in the last eight years and the number of Tennesseans employed in manufacturing is down 33 percent, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam noted this week during a visit to Memphis.

5. $1M Donation Will Fund UM's UTeach Program -

A $1 million gift from an anonymous donor will be used to establish a Scholars Program for students majoring in science, technology, engineering or mathematics and who are part of the UTeach Memphis program at the University of Memphis.

6. U of M Education Dean Forms Advisory Council -

Don Wagner, dean of the College of Education at the University of Memphis, has formed an advisory council made up of community leaders.

7. Renasant Names Wiegert VP, Mortgage Production Manager -

Michael Wiegert has been named vice president and mortgage production manager for Renasant Bank in Memphis.
