1. McKinney Named Branch Manager at Waddell & Reed -

Mack McKinney has been promoted at Waddell & Reed to district branch manager for the Memphis area. McKinney has been with the financial advisory firm for five years, holding management positions for four of those years.
McKinney works to develop field leaders and help financial advisers leverage their strengths and experiences to build successful practices. 2. Book Blitz -

Literacy Mid-South is spending part of this month literally surrounded by books.

The nonprofit, which is promoting the national Read Across America initiative in March, is in the process of collecting some 3,000 books (valued at $48,000) to give away. And in the meantime, those books will need to be somehow stored in the organization’s 1,300-square-foot office.

3. Henneberger Joins First State Bank Small-Business Lending Division -

Sean Henneberger has joined First State Bank’s small-business lending division as vice president/business development officer in the Memphis market. In his new role, Henneberger will help small businesses pursue loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration and U.S. Department of Agriculture Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan Program.

4. East Joins Carriage Crossing As Marketing Coordinator -

Kendra East has joined Carriage Crossing as marketing coordinator. East’s new responsibilities include creating and implementing the lifestyle center’s yearly marketing budget, spearheading onsite events and leading merchant communication.

5. MED Fdtn. Names Brandenburg Director of Development -

Joe Brandenburg has joined The MED Foundation as director of development.

6. Play Puts Christmas Twist on Aesop -

Call it variations on a theme. A new play by a local playwright at Circuit Playhouse blends the lessons of childhood, humor and Christmas stories into a collection of seasonal fables.

Its author, Michael Gravois, learned along the way that when opportunity knocks, the early bird gets the worm.

7. Four Memphis Police Officers Face Sex Charges -

Authorities say four Memphis police officers have been indicted on sex charges.

The state prosecutor’s office said Monday that the charges filed by a Shelby County grand jury stem from an undercover drug and prostitution investigation.

8. FOX News’ Wallace To Discuss Obama at Rhodes -

Chris Wallace, host of “FOX News Sunday,” will discuss “Obama’s First 100 Days” April 20 at Rhodes College.

The event is free and open to the public. It will begin at 7 p.m. in Hardie Auditorium on campus and is sponsored by the Project for the Study of Liberal Democracy and the Boyle-Jones Lecture Series.

9. MYRIAD POSSIBILITIES -

The Myriad Botanical Resort, a $1.9 billion mega-development that could be coming to Tunica as early as this fall, keeps getting bigger.

Plans for the Myriad, which were first made public in 2004, include hotels, a convention center, retail space, indoor golf, a spa, nightclubs and water and ice parks. Ground could be broken as soon as September on the eye-popping resort.
