Last weekend, I had the pleasure of participating in a panel as part of the Memphis Urban League Young Professional’s 2014 Empowerment Conference. We spoke on the topic of “Stand Out in the Crowd.”

2. Wells Joins Evans Petree as Associate -

Julie Wells has joined Evans Petree PC as an associate in the East Memphis office, focusing her practice in health care law and general business matters. She previously worked at Baptist Medical Group, where she played an integral role in physician practice acquisitions and contractual-related matters.

3. Leadership Memphis Announces Board Members -

Leadership Memphis has announced new board members and officers for its new fiscal year.

The officers and executive committee include Eric Robertson, chair; Beverly Jordan, vice chair; Bryan Ford, treasurer; Veronica Coleman Davis, secretary; Chris McLean, immediate past chair; Jeff Gaudino, alumni chair; Christine Munson, development chair; Lemoyne Robinson, program chair; and Jeane Chapman, marketing chair.

4. Company Helps Baptist Give Eyeglasses to Homeless -

Davis Vision has begun providing free eyeglasses to homeless people who receive medical care through Baptist Operation Outreach.

About 250 people showed up to have their vision checked and receive health screenings Friday when the company from Plainview, N.Y., and Baptist kicked off the program.

5. Drompp Named Faculty Dean, VP for Academic Affairs at Rhodes -

Michael R. Drompp has been appointed dean of the faculty and vice president for academic affairs at Rhodes College. Drompp will provide leadership for academic departments and interdisciplinary programs in curricular, personnel and budgetary matters.

6. Hennessy Joins Board Of Opportunity Scholarship Trust -

Scott C. Hennessy, president and chief executive officer of True Temper Sports, has joined the board of directors of Memphis Opportunity Scholarship Trust.

Hennessy will help direct the operations and growth of the nonprofit organization, which provides scholarships and tuition assistance. Hennessy also serves on the Board of Governors of the National Golf Foundation.

7. Perrin to Oversee Orpheum's Fundraising Efforts, Special Events -

The Orpheum Theatre announced Jim Perrin has been named vice president of development. Perrin previously served as the president of Junior Achievement of Memphis & the Mid-South Inc. In his new position, he will oversee the Orpheum's fundraising efforts, special events and other projects.
