1. Businesses Encouraged to Support LGBT Community -

NASHVILLE (AP) – The Tennessee Equality Project is starting a new initiative to encourage business to show support for the state's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

Executive director Christopher Sanders says the group is providing business owners with small "Equality Means Business" window stickers to place on their front doors. Sanders said the stickers show that a business agrees to hire employees and serve the public without regard to sexual orientation or gender identity.

3. Senate Panel Clears Bernanke Nomination -

WASHINGTON (AP) - A Senate panel on Thursday approved the nomination of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to run the nation's central bank for another four years.

The Senate Banking Committee voted 16-7 to send Bernanke's nomination to the full Senate for consideration. Approval came after a two-hour debate that heaped both praise and criticism on the Fed chief.

4. Bernanke Claims Tools, Will to Reel in Stimulus -

WASHINGTON (AP) - Making a case for a second term as head of the Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke said Thursday that he has the tools and the political backbone necessary to reel in massive economic support once the recovery is firmly rooted.

5. Peeples Promoted to Administrator At Methodist Alliance Health Services -

Trip Peeples has been promoted to administrator for Methodist Alliance Health Services' Home Medical Equipment and Infusion division.

Peeples has been with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare for seven years, most recently serving as corporate director of finance and reimbursement and interim chief financial officer for Methodist Extended Care Hospital.

6. Gerard Appointed to Statewide Post -

Dr. Dava F. Gerard, a certified physician executive and administrator at the Methodist Healthcare Cancer Center, has been appointed West Tennessee Chair for the State of Tennessee Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan. Gerard also was appointed to Tennessee's Office of Cancer Surveillance.
