1. Medicare Hospital Fund to Last Four Years Longer -

WASHINGTON (AP) — Medicare's finances are looking brighter, the government said Monday. The program's giant hospital trust fund won't be exhausted until 2030 — four years later than last year's estimate.

2. Cordova Building Sees Solid Leasing Activity -

The commercial building at 584 N. Germantown Parkway in Cordova has recently seen strong leasing activity. Advanced Prosthetics and Orthotics LLC, which opened in 2004 and provides prosthetic limbs and orthotics to support or supplement weakened or abnormal joints or limbs, inked a lease to occupy the 4,000 square feet of space that once housed a Baptist Memorial Health Care minor medical center. Last year, the center signed a 5,050-square-foot lease at the former Blockbuster space in Trinity Commons, 670 N. Germantown.

3. Nonprofits Coping With New Challenges -

About 74 percent of Mid-South nonprofit organizations reported increased service demands in 2012, compared with 72 percent a year earlier. But many of those organizations cannot fully meet the demand for increased services because of funding constraints.

4. Bioventus Inks Deal for 40,000 Square Feet -

A Durham, N.C.-based biologics company is relocating its Memphis presence, signifying a boon to the Northeast office submarket.

Bioventus LLC has inked 38,880 square feet of office and manufacturing space in Goodlett Farms Business Campus, 1900 Charles Bryan Road, in Cordova.

5. Evans Joins American Esoteric as Vice President -

Dr. Jess Evans has joined American Esoteric Laboratories as vice president of technical operations. In his new role, Evans is responsible for instrumentation, personnel, operational performance and quality assurance for the Memphis laboratory.

6. Raleigh Office Complex Sold To Local Entity -

An office complex in Raleigh has traded hands after being under the same family ownership for more than 30 years.

Commercial Real Estate Network LLC, a local investor, has purchased the 40,756-square-foot Raleigh Center Office Complex at 2974 Austin Peay Highway from Charles R. Averwater Living Trust for $299,000.

7. 'Love and Valor' Coming to Memphis Film Festival -

The narrative documentary “Love & Valor – The Intimate Civil War Letters,” will be shown as part of the 2011 On Location: Memphis International Film Festival April 8 at 3 p.m. and April 9 at 10 a.m. at Malco’s Ridgeway Four Theater, 5853 Ridgeway Center Parkway.

8. IDB Approves Electrolux PILOT -

Electrolux Home Products Inc. was approved for a 15-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) for its $195 million southwest Memphis manufacturing facility in a special Wednesday session of the Memphis-Shelby County Industrial Development Board.

10. Menlo Deal Tops Noteworthy Leases -

Despite tough times, local commercial real estate firms were able to ink plenty of deals in the past four months. Here’s a rundown of some of the most noteworthy commercial leases since Inked’s debut:

Details: Mercedes Benz of Memphis will do a renovation of its location on Poplar Avenue just east of Estate Drive. Richard Meena, vice president of Montgomery Martin Contractors, said they will be adding a new showroom and a new car wash, as well as performing general site work improvements, including some additions to the parking lot.

12. Tenants in Common Buy G’Town Pkwy. Building -

A 15,100-square-foot building off Germantown Parkway has been bought by tenants-in-common investors for $2.4 million.

Egan Family Partnership (50 percent interest), Germantown Parkway Partners LLC (40 percent), Charles Jacob (7 percent) and Paula Jacob (3 percent) bought the property from AmREIT. The deal closed July 10 and was financed with a $1.2 million loan through the seller.
