NEW YORK (AP) – Priceline has negotiated a $2.6 billion entree into the restaurant business.

The global travel booking king announced Friday it is acquiring the OpenTable Inc. in a deal that would put Priceline into a new business doing for restaurant reservations much what it does for hotel bookings.

4. Median CEO Pay Rises to $9.7 Million in 2012 -

CEO pay has been going in one direction for the past three years: up.

The head of a typical large public company made $9.7 million in 2012, a 6.5 percent increase from a year earlier that was aided by a rising stock market, according to an analysis by The Associated Press using data from Equilar, an executive pay research firm.

NASHVILLE (AP) – State lawmakers opposed to legislative redistricting plans are questioning the desire of Republican leaders to pass them so quickly.

GOP leaders hope their redistricting plans can come up for a vote early as Thursday, Jan. 12, after the judiciary committees in both chambers passed the plans on to the House and Senate floors.

NEW YORK (AP) – In the boardroom, it's as if the Great Recession never happened. CEOs at the nation's largest companies were paid better last year than they were in 2007, when the economy was booming, the stock market set a record high and unemployment was roughly half what it is today.

8. Comcast Q3 Profit Up 22 Pct, But Growth Slows -

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Comcast Corp. reported a 22 percent increase in third-quarter earnings, buoyed by an investment gain and a lower tax rate as it stepped up promotions on its bundled video, phone and Internet plans.

9. Comcast's Q2 Profit Soars 53 Pct, Tops Estimates -

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Comcast Corp., the nation's biggest cable TV systems operator, posted a 53 percent increase in second-quarter profit on Thursday, helped by higher prices and increased customer spending on video and Internet services. But subscriber growth markedly slowed as the recession's grip remained tight.

13. DeSoto's Dance with Development -

It's no secret the DeSoto County residential market has been thriving over the past few years, but commercial development is closing in fast on the heels of the many new DeSoto County residents.

Chuck Roberts, who has lived in Mississippi for around 20 years and owns Chuck Roberts Commercial Real Estate, has seen the area's commercial development pick up over the years. He points to the Southaven Towne Center at Interstate 55 and Goodman Road as the most obvious commercial development in the county.
