When Nicole Phillippe, of Memphis, decided to take a leap of faith and open an art gallery, the first thing she did was break the rules.
“Everyone usually tells you to narrow down to a specific market, but I wanted to reach out to a wide market. I wanted to create a place for everybody,” said Phillippe, owner of Allie Cat Arts at 961 S. Cooper St. “So many people told me it couldn’t be done, but I just said, ‘I’m going to make it work.’”

Diocese: Proposed Abortion, Women’s Health Site Too Close to School -

The Catholic Diocese of Memphis says the proposed new location for Planned Parenthood on Madison Avenue is too close to its high school.
The Rev. Michael P. Joyce, chancellor for the diocese, wrote a letter to the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency opposing the application that Planned Parenthood of Greater Memphis Region has filed to relocate from 1407 Union Ave. to 1750 Madison. The board for the state agency is scheduled to review the certificate of need application next Wednesday.
