1. Graceland Exhibit Gives Glimpse Into Young Elvis -

MEMPHIS (AP) – The telegram sent by Elvis Presley to his parents in November 1954 gives a glimpse into the young singer's priorities and his optimism, as he begins what will become a career as a rock 'n' roll icon and cultural phenomenon.

2. Events -

Playhouse on the Square will host a performance of “Les Miserables” to benefit the Memphis Child Advocacy Center Saturday, Aug. 17, at 8 p.m. at Playhouse, 66 S. Cooper St. A pre-performance reception and silent auction begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $60 and are available through MCAC, 888-4342.

The Daily News will host its HR Rules and Ramifications Seminar and panel discussion Thursday, Aug. 8, at 3:30 p.m. in the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art auditorium, 1934 Poplar Ave. The seminar will include an overview of changing employment laws and advice on dealing with real-life workplace issues. 4Memphis magazine, formerly VIP Memphis Magazine, is under new ownership.

The new entity, 4Memphis Publishing LLC, is comprised of publisher Jim Walker, owner of Eden Spa & Laser and an officer with Merchants & Planters Bank; the Levy family of Oak Hall Inc.; Jay Mednikow of Mednikow Jewelers; Joel Hobson of Hobson Realtors; Judy McLellan of Crye-Leike Realtors Inc.; and Amy Howell of Howell Marketing Strategies LLC.

6. VIP Memphis Relaunches as 4Memphis Mag Under New Ownership -

4Memphis magazine, formerly VIP Memphis Magazine, is under new ownership.

7. Rotarians Launch Midtown Club -

Midtown now has its own Rotary club.

The group, which has 26 members, is looking for others to join. They set their charter celebration for 6:30 p.m. Friday in a VIP tent at the Levitt Shell, where the club was scheduled to be recognized from the stage just before the 7:30 p.m. performance by The Dynamites.
